Thermographic systems for continuous inspection of molds and dies

Thermographic systems for continuous inspection of molds and dies

For casting, molding, and hot forming, temperature control in your tooling, presses, and dies is of vital importance. This parameter determines to a large extent if the part will present discontinuities such as cracks, pores or reluctances.

Initially, thermocouples will be used to measure specific sections of the mold. This had the great limitation of not being able to measure exactly at the points of interest.

With the arrival of thermography, all that changed. Due to its non-contact nature, it does not interfere with the process at all, and thanks to its matrix measurement the entire surface of interest in the mold can be covered with a high level of detail. The process specialists benefited greatly from this, and once the new technique was mastered, there was a need to continuously and fully monitor production.

Fixed cameras fulfill this function; they also have a very high precision and repeatability. Its integration requires software and instrumentation engineering to link, in addition to cameras, control and communication devices, such as solenoid valves, switches and HMIs. These needs are met with the bcbDieScan system, developed by bcb and integrating FLIR thermal imaging cameras.

We have a highly competent engineering and development team, with more than 25 years of experience in vision and data acquisition projects. We offer from consulting in thermographic monitoring of processes, to turnkey projects. These engineering projects are applicable to Foundry (HPDC, LPDC, Gravity Casting, sand and lost wax mold), Forging, Hot Stamping, Injection, Blowing and Thermoforming.
