The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the largest technical-professional association in the world, has published an artículo talking about thermal imaging cameras for body temperature detection and the bcbFaceScansoftware that bcb has developed to help in the fight against COVID 19.
Thermal imaging cameras are a fast, non-contact, and reliable method of detecting fever, a common symptom of COVID-19. Alejandro Kurtz de Griñó, a member of IEEE and a design and research engineer at bcb, is working together with his team to improve the technology used in these cameras so that they can be used in places such as airports, hospitals, factories, office buildings, restaurants and stores to provide quick individual exams to help stop the spread of the virus.
bcb has developed the software, bcbFaceScan, that helps cameras meet technical standards required by the healthcare industry. Thermal imaging cameras used in the healthcare field must meet specific standards. For example, detection technology must have a high thermal resolution and a measurement precision of +/- 0.5 ºC. Several manufacturers of these cameras are not meeting those requirements.
bcbFaceScan is implemented on cameras by FLIR Systems, the leading manufacturer of thermal imaging cameras, of which bcb is a distributor and integrator. FLIR has several models that, when combined with bcbFaceScan software, comply with international standards. The cameras have infrared temperature sensors and motorized focus, which are controlled by the software system operator. Temperature sensors detect electromagnetic waves from the person, and motorized focus allows the camera operator to zoom in and out.

bcb is conducting webinars related to COVID 19 “Weapons against coronavirus: Thermography, an effective tool for detecting elevated body temperature”, organizing its third edition this Thursday, May 14.
In his presentations, bcb explains the use of thermography to detect high body temperature, with Teledyne FLIR thermal imaging cameras. Also doing practical demonstrations with the bcbFaceScan and ending with a round of questions.
